The words childrens fancy dress can produce fear in any parent. During school years, they will be many occasions where you receive an invite for a party for your child and it says you are invited this weekend, fancy dress outfit in the style of Star Wars please ( please substitute your own horrific costume theme!) Children then expect you to be able to produce a full working R2D2 outfit within 4 days and wow their friends. Panic sets in and the imagination fails. Childrens fancy dress can be found in a lot of high street stores but if your child is over 6 or tall for their age, the choices of fancy dress outfit are limited. You can buy one and amend it if you are skilful with a needle and cotton. If the sewing machine is your best friend, you may even be able to knock one up from scratch. For the rest of the mums, it doesn’t leave many viable options.

Luckily, most fancy dress costumes can be hired from professional fancy dress shops. You may not get the exact fancy dress outfit you wanted, but there should be a lot of choice and sizes available. Childrens fancy dress is an old tradition for parties so the fancy dress shop will be able to help and advise which fancy dress costumes is most suitable.

When else could you need a fancy dress costume?

The other important time of the fancy dress costume’s lifespan is the school plays. Traditionally, a nativity play was held at Christmas and Mary and Joseph had tea towels on their head and a donkey was a grey sheet over a small child. Now, the Christmas plays have been exploded and expanded to ensure every child is part of it. You may well be told to produce a hula girl outfit this Christmas so be warned!
